Remote Terminal Unit, RTU

A Remote Terminal Unit, or RTU, is a microprocessor-controlled electronic device that connects objects in the physical world to a distributed control system or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Certain processes can be monitored and/or remotely controlled from a control room or remote center.
The telecontrol device sends telemetry data to a master system. This sends messages to the controllers of connected devices.
